Disability: Bristol youth centre undergoes face-lift

1 min read

The new-look Brentry Lodge Youth Centre has a music room with disabled-friendly decks, an updated kitchen and lounge area, an IT room, disabled toilets and a lift.

Young people were consulted on the changes before the make-over began five months ago.

Helen Parks, spokesperson at Bristol Council, which funded the refit, said: "When people think of disabled young people, they imagine wheelchairs.

But the young people wanted training decks, which are very popular now." James Brennan, an 18-year-old user of the centre, said: "The centre's got a lot more potential following the improvements." The Disability Discrimination Act has been rolled out in sections. Reasonable adjustments to premises need to be in place by September 2005.
