Delivering Differently for Young People

1 min read Youth Work
Delivering Differently for Young People is a £500,000 central government fund to help councils rethink the way youth services are delivered, so positive outcomes can be achieved for young people. The programme will support 10 local authorities to explore different delivery models that lie between in-house delivery at one end and traditional outsourcing at the other, with a view to creating a service that is sustainable in the long term. Examples of alternative ways of delivering youth services include public service mutuals, a partnership delivery with the voluntary sector, a partnership with community groups, or public-private partnerships. The fund is managed jointly by the Cabinet Office, the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Local Government Association and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives.

How much is available? Successful councils will be provided with consultancy support to the value of £50,000. The project team will work with the chosen local authorities to draw up a bespoke technical, legal and consultancy support package, and purchase it on their behalf.

How does it work? After tailored support has been provided, it is expected that the majority of applications will target a service review that would lead to a completed transformation of youth services by March 2016. The programme is not intended to support councils that believe outcomes can be delivered most effectively through a restructure of in-house provision alone.
