Youth reoffending rate drops to lowest level in a decade; police attempt to curb radicalisation of Kent children; and call for video communications between female prisoners and their children, all in the news today.

The rate of reoffending for young offenders leaving custody has fallen to its lowest level in a decade. Latest statistics published by the Ministry of Justice show that 67.4 per cent of offenders released from custody between July 2011 and June 2012 reoffended within a year. The figure represents a fall of 5.3 percentage points on the previous year.

Police are using a Facebook-style website to teach school children as young as 10 how to spot radicalisation in their friends. The Telegraph reports that police hope the programme, being trialled in 30 schools in Kent, will also help prevent teenagers travelling to Syria to fight in the civil war there.
