The teenage pregnancy rate in Bradford has halved in five years in line with government targets, Bradford Council has announced. The local authority is one of only nine per cent to have reached the national objective set in 1999. Bradford Council’s head of public health Ralph Saunders said the target had been achieved by educating parents, teachers, health workers and carers, as well as teenagers, about the affects of getting pregnant at a young age.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg will announce a new £50m fund targeted at helping young people find jobs in England’s largest regional cities. The Yorkshire Post reports that the funding will give council and business leaders in England’s eight largest regional cities the opportunity to bring forward new schemes to help the young.
