Primary school behaviour getting worse; Rochdale Council takes steps to improve safeguarding; and Gove criticised over academy plans, all in the news today.

The behaviour of primary school children has got worse, a survey of teachers has found. Research conducted by the Teacher Support Network shows that 53 per cent of primary school teachers say they have seen worsening behaviour, compared with 46 per cent of secondary school teachers.

A new child safeguarding service has been launched in Rochdale in a bid to “plug the gaps” between agencies and improve protection for young people. The launch of the Multi-Agency Screening Service (MASS) in the borough – a partnership between the council, police and local health services - aims to boost information sharing and analysis of safeguarding intelligence. Its introduction comes after Rochdale’s children’s services were served with a government improvement notice in November.
