
The government has drafted a new code designed to prioritise youngsters from the poorest backgrounds getting into the best state schools. The Telegraph reports that the proposals, which are to go out to consultation, would apply to children subject to the pupil premium.
Officials knew about the “Trojan Horse” plot to take over Birmingham schools two years ago but failed to act, a review has found. The Telegraph reports there was “coordinated” action by Islamist hardliners to impose an “intolerant and aggressive Islamic ethos” on pupils. It found that officials at Birmingham City Council “failed to intervene appropriately” because they feared offending the Muslim population.
