Daily roundup: Ofsted inspections, child obesity and children's centres

Ofsted report reveals latest inspection judgments of early years settings; a government adviser warns of the dangers of sugary drinks on children's health; and children's centres in Warrington face closure, all in the news today.

New data shows that 70 per cent of early years inspections carried out between November last year and March resulted in judgments of “good” or “outstanding”.  Ofsted also judged 21 per cent of settings as “requires improvement” during the same time frame.

A government adviser has said that parents should only serve water with meals in an attempt to tackle child obesity. According to the Telegraph, Susan Jebb, professor of diet and population health at Oxford University has warned that sugary drinks are the greatest threat to children’s health and said they should be banned from the dinner table.

Half of Warrington’s children’s centres could be closed as the council seeks to make financial savings. The Warrington Guardian reports that six of the town’s 12 centres will either be closed or restructured.
