Academies boss appointed as new Ofsted chair; funding given for gang work in London; and careers advice fails to influence most young people's job choices, all in the news today.

Businessman David Hoare has been appointed as the next chair of Ofsted. The Department for Education has said that Hoare will step down as trustee of the Academies Enterprise Trust to take up the post in September. He will replace Baroness Sally Morgan, who has been chair since 2011.

Thousands of teachers, police officers and doctors in London will be trained to spot signs of mental illness in gang members and their victims, it has been announced. The Evening Standard reports that the £460,000 project will see professionals who work with young people given lessons on peer-on-peer violence and sexual exploitation.
