
The government has asked Health Education England to develop a new training course for GPs to enable them to better manage the care of children and young people with long-term health conditions. The announcement was in response to calls by the Children and Young People's Health Outcomes Forum for better paediatric training for health professionals. The Forum's first annual report, published yesterday, found improvements in the health system but said more needed to be invested in early intervention and prevention across children's health and care services.
Labour would scrap coalition plans for secure colleges to house young offenders. The Guardian reports that Sadiq Khan, the shadow justice secretary, believes they are a “recipe for disaster”, especially if they result in the closure of secure children's homes.
