Home Office launches FGM poster campaign; London council keeps primary school open after change in housing policy; and mother neglect case dropped after plea from son, all in the news today.

A new poster campaign urging mothers and carers to help protect girls and young women from female genital mutilation (FGM) has been launched. The Home Office wants mothers and carers who suspect a girl in their community is at risk of FGM to call the NSPCC’s dedicated helpline for support and advice.

The newly-elected Labour administration in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham is to keep a local primary school threated with closure open because of an expected rise in demand for places. The council’s previous Conservative administration had proposed closing Sulivan Primary School to merge it with another school nearby to make way for a free school, reports the Mirror. But Labour said a “significant” change of housing policy with 1,000 extra homes could see increased demand for primary places.
