
Increasing numbers of staff at the Department for Education say they have been victims of discrimination at work. The Guardian reports that a civil service staff survey uncovered by Labour found that the number of people who said they personally suffered discrimination has increased from 10 to 30 since 2010.
A council in London is turning to big screen advertising to find potential adoptive parents. From this week, cinema audiences across London will run an advert by Lambeth Council illustrating the positive impact adoption can have on the lives of children in care.
NHS chief Sir Bruce Keogh has ordered an independent review into the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children following the deaths of newborn babies and infants, The Telegraph reports. It comes in the wake of allegations by parents of a “catalogue of neglect and poor care” in children’s cardiac services.
A total of 52 under-16s have been arrested over alleged rape since 2009 in Cambridgeshire. The Cambridge News reports that no further action was taken against 36 of the 52, including two 11-year-old boys and a boy aged 10. A dozen under-16s were charged with rape including two aged 13, two aged 14 and 10 aged 15 – the remaining four were bailed.
Interest in a career in engineering has increased among young people since a government-backed promotion of the industry. A survey commissioned by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills found that the number of 11-to 14-year-olds thinking about working in engineering has jumped by six per cent.
