Daily roundup: Children's services, funding, and nursery education

Doncaster's children's trust close to launch; £5.8m of extra children's services funds approved in Bucks; and attending nursery gives children advantage in later life, all in the news today.

The implementation of Doncaster Children’s Services Trust has now entered its final stages, reports the Doncaster Star. Next week, Doncaster Council’s Cabinet will consider the draft contract, which will lay out the services delivered by the Trust as well as its financial arrangements. They will also be asked to authorise Jo Miller, the council’s chief executive, to finalise and sign the contract in consultation with mayor Ros Jones later this month.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s cabinet has approved the release £4.8m from council reserves to increase the budget for children’s services for 2014/15. It also backed the release of a contingency of £1m to immediately fund measures in the draft improvement plan, reports the Slough Observer. Ofsted rated the council’s children’s services as “inadequate” last month, finding “children are not being effectively protected”.
