
Numbers of care applications last month were down on the previous year, Cafcass figures have shown. In July 2013, Cafcass received a total of 870 applications, a 13 per cent decrease on the 995 received in July 2012 - the second highest number of applications in a single month ever.
A barrister who described a 13-year-old victim of sex abuse as "predatory" has been suspended from sexual offence cases pending a review. The BBC reports that the Crown Prosecution Service said Robert Colover would not be instructed in sex cases while it considered the situation.
Members of the public should boycott websites that allow cyberbullying, Prime Minister David Cameron has said. The Guardian reports that Cameron wants website operators to "step up to the plate" to ensure people are protected from online abuse. His remarks follow the death of 14-year-old Hannah Smith.
More than half of local play services are not accessible for disabled children and young people, say service providers. A survey of more than 900 people working in play and leisure provision by charity Kids found only 47 per cent said adequate services were available. The providers said they lacked the resources and support required to deliver inclusive provision.
