Daily roundup: Adoptions, exclusions in Wales and immunisation claims

The number of adoptions creeps up, exclusions of Welsh SEN pupils on the rise, and a website is rapped over immunisation claims, all in the headlines today.

Latest figures show that the number of adoptions in England and Wales rose by 6 per cent in 2011. According to the Office for National Statistics there were 4,734 adoptions last year. The statistics also show that 62 per cent of children adopted were aged between one and four years, rising from 58 per cent in 2010. The Local Government Association described the rise as "heartening" but insisted adoption is not always the best solution for children in care.

Exclusions of vulnerable pupils with special educational needs (SEN) from schools in Wales have more than doubled in the past ten years, the Western Mail reports. The number of exclusions rose from 4,275 in 2002/03 to 9,015 in 2010/11 while over the same period, the number of pupils excluded without SEN fell from 10,842 to 9,441.
