
A charity has warned that it is on course to hand out a record number of food parcels across the UK this financial year. The BBC reports that the Trussell Trust said it has distributed 500,000 parcels in the last six months and is on course to exceed its highest annual number since launching 12 years ago.
A total of six local authorities have been chosen to work with the Welsh government to pilot the new childcare offer, it has been announced. Projects offering 30 hours of free early education and childcare per week to three- and four-year-olds will be piloted from September next year in locations within Gwynedd, Anglesey, Flintshire, Swansea, Blaenau Gwent and Rhondda Cynon Taf.?
A youth club venue in Waltham Forest is set to close in 2017 unless a local charity can raise at least £10,000 to save it. Worth Unlimited has been running the mobile youth venue for the past eight years as part of a partnership with Waltham Forest Council. But earlier this year the council decided that running the youth bus is no longer viable and wants to dispose of the vehicle. ?
Two families who claimed that the bedroom tax, which restricts housing subsidies, was unfair have won their appeals against the government at the supreme court, but other claimants have had their challenges dismissed. The Guardian reports that Paul and Susan Rutherford, who care for their severely disabled 17-year-old grandson in a specially adapted three-bedroom bungalow in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, are among those who have been dismissed.?
A youth worker who helped to expose the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal has been awarded an MBE. The Yorkshire Post reports that Jayne Senior, who repeatedly raised concerns about CSE, dedicated her "bittersweet" award to "the courageous children" whose voices were ignored".
