
Millions of mothers are missing out on valuable peer support that encourages breastfeeding, according to a UK-wide survey. The Guardian reports despite both the World Health Organisation and the UK watchdog the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence recommending that breastfeeding mothers are mentored by "peer-supporters" in the community, provision is "patchy".
A couple have been jailed for 16-months for leaving their toddlers dirty and hungry. The Nottingham Post reports that a decomposed mouse was found in the shower of the house where the parents lived with two children. When the children were examined, they both suffered from head lice.
A US hospital has offered to ship an experimental drug to the UK to help treat critically ill Charlie Gard. The Guardian reports that New York Presbyterian hospital and Columbia University Irving medical center also offered to admit the 11-month-old if legal hurdles could be cleared.
Children at a Berkshire nursery have been drawing pictures of the Grenfell Tower fire after being left "upset" by news images of the building. The Mirror reports that teachers at Caversham Nursery in Reading said that as the youngsters have been exposed to the tragedy, which is ultimately unavoidable, it is far healthier to engage and talk about it.
