
Kids Company founder Camila Batmanghelidjh has claimed that “malicious and untrue allegations” of child abuse against the charity were orchestrated to fatally damage it and were directly responsible for its closure. The Guardian reports that police have dropped an investigation into child abuse claims at the charity after failing to uncover any evidence of criminality or failures of safeguarding.
Four out of 10 teachers have experienced some form of violence from pupils in the past year, research has found. A survey by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers found that, of those who had experienced violence, 77 per cent said they had been pushed or shoved and around half were kicked or had an object thrown at them.
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt was ordered by a judge to delete a "highly inappropriate" tweet he sent during a landmark manslaughter trial. The BBC reports that Hunt posted a link to a news report of the Frances Cappuccini trial, who died after surgery following a Caesarean birth, saying it was a "tragic case from which huge lessons must be learned".
Victims of domestic abuse are being forced to face their abusers in court without legal representation because of cuts to legal aid, the court of appeal has been told. The Guardian reports that the Ministry of Justice claims that all domestic violence victims who require assistance in court proceedings are given it. But campaign group Rights of Women said this is not the case.
Britain has one of the lowest rates of long-term breastfeeding in the world. The Independent reports that a study by the World Health Organisation found that only 0.5 per cent of British children are breastfed for a year. One in three are breastfed for six months.
Significant numbers of young people are being referred to an anti-radicalisation programme in Surrey because of extreme right-wing views. Get Surrey reports that police are blaming social media, stating that those looking to radicalise young people can easily target them.
