Council to build temporary homes for homeless families; Dorset to transfer youth centres to community; and parents bribing children to read, all in the news today.

Reading Borough Council has announced plans to build temporary accommodation for homeless families to use in emergencies. The BBC reports that it will build 28 prefabricated flats to house families while the council tries to house them in authority-owned accommodation.


The transfer of some of Dorset's youth centres to the community has been approved by councillors. The Bournemouth Echo reports that the council has agreed to push plans forward for youth centre buildings to be transferred to 16 community centres.


Parents are bribing their children to read with sweets, money and trips due to the rise of "digital distractions," according to a survey of more than 500 families by education publisher Rising Stars. The Daily Mail reports that 60 per cent of families admitted to bribing their young children to encourage reading.


Three British children whose mother has been jailed after planning a move to Islamic state-controlled territory in Syria are to live with relatives pending a decision about their future, a High Court judge has been told. The Guardian reports that the mother, Lorna Moore, will be able to stay in contact with the children.  


A film highlighting the need for more foster carers has been launched by fostering charity TACT. Designed to mark Foster Care Fortnight, the film shows two children taking it in turns to stand alone for 20 minutes in a busy high street to reflect statistics that every 20 minutes across the UK a child goes into care in need of a foster family.
