
Passengers and staff on the UK's railway network have been called on to help identify and protect vulnerable children. Charity Railway Children and the British Transport Police have joined forces to develop the Safeguarding on Transport campaign, which will today focus on the five train stations to have recorded the highest number of child safeguarding incidents in 2016. It aims to raise awareness among rail staff and passengers about the signs that indicate a child might be at risk and what they can do to help.
Young children's maths, English and communication skills improve if they use iPads in school on a regular basis, a study has found. The BBC reports that the study - Mobile Devices in Early Learning - was carried out in Northern Ireland over two years and involved about 650 pupils in five Belfast primary schools and five nursery schools.
Healthcare professionals, parents and young people are being urged to familiarise themselves with the signs of childhood stroke to help prevent potentially devastating effects. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Stroke Association have launched a new clinical guideline in a bid to ensure children receive diagnosis and appropriate treatment more quickly, minimising the risk of severe long-term health problems.
More than 20 children in Wales were considered to be potential victims of exploitation last year, according to National Crime Agency figures. The BBC reports that Barnardo's Cymru is raising awareness of child sexual exploitation to mark International Missing Children's Day today.
Two children aged nine and 10 have failed in their legal bid to stay in England with their mother, rather than return to their lawyer father in the US. The Metro reports that the boy, nine, told family court judge Mr Justice MacDonald that he "didn't like America that much", even though he was born there, and that he preferred the UK. His sister, 10, also said she would prefer to stay in Britain.
