
Father's rights campaigners have defended a direct action protest outside the Tarporley home of children's minister Edward Timpson just days after the killing of Labour MP Jo Cox. The Chester Chronicle reports the protestors from Stop the War on Dads group - New Fathers 4 Justice led a demonstration outside Timpson's home to coincide with Father's Day, claiming he had refused to meet them.?
?One in four children have ordered a takeaway to be delivered to their school, the Royal Society of Public health has warned. The Telegraph reports a survey of 500 children and young people aged 13 to 18 found almost half thought fast food takeaways were the companies most at fault for childhood obesity. ?
?The creation of a children's services company that will take over the running of social services for children in Sunderland has moved a step closer. The Sunderland Echo reports councillors moved to recommend the creation of the organisation at the latest cabinet meeting and it is hoped it will rebuild the reputation of the authority's children's services.
The family of Ellie Butler, who was murdered by her father after being returned to his care, have called for a public inquiry. Sky News reports Neal Gray, the six-year-old's maternal grandfather, said he wants everything to be "open and above board" and that questions needed to be asked of the judiciary and public services.?
Scottish pupils are increasingly securing employment rather than going to college or university when they leave school, figures have revealed. The Herald Scotland reports official statistics show nearly 28 per cent of pupils were in employment nine months after leaving school in 2014/15 compared with fewer than a quarter in 2010/11. Meanwhile, the proportion of school leavers going to university dropped from 62.5 per cent in 2013/14 to 60.2 per cent the following year.?
