
Children are suffering as a result of the drive to improve the healthcare of the elderly, according to the leader of Britain's paediatricians. The Times reports that Professor Russell Viner, president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said the UK's child mortality rate was among the worst in Europe and children have been "squeezed out by the rush to focus on the elderly".
So-called "sharenting" - where parents share personal information about their children on social media - is the "weakest link" in risking online fraud and identity theft, Barclays has warned. The BBC reports that the bank said parents are compromising their children's future financial security with so much online sharing.
Facebook and other social media websites should require parents to confirm that their children are over the age of 13 before they are allowed to use the websites, the government has said. The Telegraph reports that Culture Secretary Matt Hancock criticised social media websites for only requiring children to tick a box to confirm that they are over the age of 13. He said that social media means it is "one of the hardest times to be a parent", with children using new technology that "we couldn't have dreamed of" a generation ago.
A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a young person who was stabbed on a main shopping street in Sutton Coldfield. The BBC reports that Ozell Pemberton, 16, was found with chest injuries on Thursday afternoon. The 17-year-old from Lozells, who cannot be named, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court later.
An eight-year-old boy found a shotgun on waste ground "where children play" in Liverpool. The BBC reports that police were called at about 6pm on Sunday to reports a child had discovered a gun near Church View and Chapel Terrace, in Bootle.
