
More than half of parents are scared of their own children, according to new research. The Sun reports that researchers surveying British parents found that many give in to their children's daily demands through fear of their reaction - with 56 per cent admitting their child is the boss of them and of the house.
The president of the Prison Governors Association has criticised the government's management of prisons in England and Wales. The BBC reports that Andrea Albutt wrote an open letter after recent violence at prisons in Hertfordshire and Wiltshire. She said the unrest was causing "grave concern", adding that governors faced "unacceptable stress and anxiety".
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust has entered into a partnership with Blackburn Youth Zone to provide sports provision at the facility. The Blackburn Rovers Football Club website stated that the charitable trust will provide coaching, mentoring and participation opportunities across a range of sports.
Steven Barker, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing the death of Peter Connelly - known as Baby P - in 2007, has been denied parole. The Independent reports that in 2009, Barker was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 10 years after he was convicted of raping a two-year-old girl, which he was ordered to serve concurrently.
Concerns have been been raised that parents with young children could lose a "lifeline" under plans to reorganise children's centres in Warwickshire. The BBC reports that the county council is midway through a public consultation that could create 12 "family hubs" from 39 centres. One woman told a public consultation that a centre in Warwick that helped parents with a range of problems could be lost.
Just one in 10 Scottish children achieve recommended levels of physical activity every day, a new study conducted for the Scottish Government has revealed. The Scotsman reports that, according to the research, the vast majority of 10- and 11-year-olds in Scotland are failing to meet guidelines that say they should do at least one hour of moderate to vigorous exercise daily.
