One in five children using the internet have viewed pornography, an analysis by the government has revealed. The cost of raising a child to the age of 21 has risen to £231,843, researchers have claimed. The Guardian reports that the figure is a 65 per cent increase on 2003 and includes around £70,000 for childcare and babysitting.

The NSPCC has raised concerns over plans by Cambridgeshire County Council to cut the number of children being brought into care. Cambridge News reports the council is looking to save £2m in spending on looked-after children.
