Cynthia Bower has been named as the chief executive of the Care Quality Commission. The commission is set to replace the Healthcare Commission, Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Mental Health Act Commission. A shadow commission will be up and running by October prior to its full launch in April 2009. Bower is currently the chief executive of West Midlands Strategic Health Authority.
