CWDC publishes qualifications list

Careers Early Years
The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has published a new qualifications list, which all early years practitioners must adhere to from September next year.

Currently, employers in all settings delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage must ensure practitioners have all the qualifications detailed on the CWDC's Early Years and Playwork Database of Qualifications.

However, from September 2009 only qualifications on the new list will be acceptable to meet registration and regulatory requirements. The list is already available on the CWDC website in order to ensure local authorities, employers and practitioners have as much time as possible to understand the implications of these changes.

Pauline Jones, national development officer for CWDC, believes the changes should not affect most practitioners: "For many, there will be no implications but some will have to undertake further training and assessment in order to be counted in the ratio of qualified staff in the future," she said.
