Curriculum to challenge racism

1 min read Early Years
A Scottish council is pioneering a radical way to stamp out racism in children from an early age.

Glasgow City Council has become the first authority in Scotland to launch an anti- racism curriculum for the city's 126 early years centres, along with 88 partnership nurseries across the area.

The curriculum will cover developing anti-racist attitudes in young children, helping them to challenge racism and inequality, and developing parental awareness of racism and its negative effects.

A section in the curriculum for staff aims to help them deal with racism and give examples of practical help in dealing with racist incidents.

Margaret Doran, executive director of education and social work at the council, said: "There is no place for racism within any of our schools and centres."
