1. There is a powerful and urgent need for active approaches to anti-racism. National newspapers print overtly racist headlines, fears about immigration appear as thinly disguised racism, and the Government seems willing to respond sympathetically to xenophobic reactions. European-wide Action Week Against Racism runs from 20-28 March. This is a good stimulus, but make it last all year round.

2. Racism thrives on ignorance. There is plenty of ignorance about. Some White young people pick up and repeat myths of Black and Asian people being given better jobs, housing or services, more money, even free handouts. Explore these beliefs and find out the reality. Try not to reject them in a dismissive way. Let young people work out how ill-founded they are.
