Courts service to boost staff training

1 min read Social Care
The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) is to increase its staff-training budget by 70 per cent to 2m in 2008/09.

As part of the drive to improve training, the organisation - which protects children's interests in the family courts - has launched an appraisal and performance system that includes individual learning accounts for staff.

The accounts will allow staff to identify areas of professional development and give them access to training, individual coaching, one-to-one mentoring, e-learning and conferences.

A total of £250 will be allocated to each of Cafcass' 1,500 employees for training needs. In addition, £10,000 will be allocated to its 24 service heads to go towards collective learning.

Anthony Douglas, chief executive of Cafcass, said the extra funding for training would lead to "huge indirect benefits for the people who use our services".
