Case name: LT (A Child); Case number: [2010] EWCA Civ 1527; Judges: Sir Nicholas Wall, Lady Justice Arden, Lord Justice Wilson; Location: Court of Appeal

This case concerned an appeal by a grandmother against a dismissal of her application for post-adoption contact with her grandson. In February 2010, an adoption order had been made in relation to her grandson, N, aged two. In 2009, when care and placement orders for N were made, the local authority and the court intended that following placement and adoption, there would still be some direct contact between N and his grandmother.

Following a meeting with the grandmother, the adoptive parents became concerned about the prospect of direct contact. The grandmother was granted leave to apply for a contact order. The judge at the County Court dismissed the grandmother's application following evidence that the contact proceedings were having an adverse effect on the adoptive parents and on N.
