Councils asked to review targeted youth services

The director of the government's Youth Taskforce has written to all directors of children's services asking for a review of youth services that target vulnerable young people.

Anne Weinstock has asked directors to complete an overview of theirservices by 5 October. Her letter states: "The process should help youassess the impact that targeted youth support reforms are having in yourarea and identify issues to work on."

The review aims to identify local authorities that are struggling toimplement the reforms and channel resources to them.

Gordon Savage, head of integrated youth services in Derbyshire, saidmore work is needed to ensure targeted support is successful.

He said: "There are examples of good practice, but there needs to be afocus on where we are in relation to designing methods to fully embedtargeted youth support into our services."
