Council youth work jobs axed

Youth Work
Wolverhampton City Council is axing seven youth service posts as part of a wider 41m savings plan.

The council initially wanted to cut 26 posts but council members blocked the move at a full meeting on 3 December. Instead, they voted to remove seven existing roles and deferred any decision on the remainder of the savings proposals until a review has been completed in the new year.

Marie Taylor, chair of the Community and Youth Workers' Union West Bromwich branch, said she was disappointed that the youth service was being cut at all.

"Morale among staff is quite low and they're disgusted that senior management who are from a formal education background saw fit to make these proposals in the first place," she said.
