Cornwall Council has suspended plans to revamp 32 local secondary schools because of budget constraints.
The authority was preparing to bid for 580m to refurbish everysecondary school in the area, as part of the Building Schools for theFuture scheme.
But the plans have been put on hold for at least six months, because thecouncil cannot afford to pay the 6m to 7m required to drawup its formal proposals and cover consultant fees.
Councillor Alec Robertson, leader of the council, said: "We are notcompletely sure what the council's financial situation is."
