Consultation on costs of custody

Youth Justice
The prospect of the cost of custody being devolved to local authorities has moved a step closer after the Youth Justice Board (YJB) made a submission to ministers on the issue.

Frances Done, chair of the YJB, said she is calling for an "informalconsultation" over the summer on how such a scheme would work.

This would involve discussion with the Local Government Association(LGA) as well as other stakeholders.

A spokesman for the LGA said: "We look forward to being involved inthese discussions and exploring issues that are challenges to devolvingbudgets."
