Following the announcement that more than 50 frontline staff will be made redundant from the service because of increases in pension contributions (YPN, 21-27 January, p5), around 100 members of Unison and the Community and Youth Workers' Union protested outside offices this week.
Steve Torrance, Unison officer at Sheffield Futures, said: "In 2001, the company had a 100,000 surplus. In 2004, there is a 1m black hole."
Sheffield Futures said in a statement: "The board fully shares staff concerns and will make representations at the highest level about the reduction in the amount of money provided for careers guidance services."
