Teenage pregnancy co-ordinator Chris Clark will still be employed by South Essex Primary Care Trust, but will work alongside Southend Connexions staff to give a more rounded approach to lowering the numbers of teen pregnancies in the Essex town.
Michael Bracey, group manager at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, said it was unusual to have a teenage pregnancy co-ordinator working in a Connexions team.
"We're proud of the way we have an integrated youth support service and want this development to be exactly the same as any other member of staff," he said.
"We don't want Chris to work at arm's length but to be someone who is an integral part of the service and has a say in our priorities."
