Community Work: Bus fleet for Essex youth workers

Essex County Council has spent more than 300,000 on a fleet of youth buses to take services to young people in some of the county's harder-to-reach areas.

The council has bought six vehicles and refurbished two existing buses. All eight have been fitted with drinks dispensers, seating areas, DVD players and computers.

The buses have also been decorated using designs created by young people.

Councillor Tracey Chapman, Essex County Council cabinet member for schools, children and families, said: "Our youth workers will now be able to drive directly into communities and will liaise closely with partners such as the police, community workers, drug action teams and teenage pregnancy teams."
