The committee was expected to finish hearing evidence in March but the inquiry will now continue until May. A report into its findings is now expected to be published before the parliamentary recess in July, a spokeswoman confirmed.
But Doug Nicholls, national officer for community, youth workers and not-for-profit sector at Unite, said: "By June there is likely to be 3,000 fewer youth centres and at least 3,000 fewer professional youth workers in post. If the select committee wants more time it should insist in the interim that the government calls for a moratorium on all current youth service cuts proposals."
