CO-OPERATIVE SCHOOLS: Cumbrian primary plans first co-op

A Cumbrian primary school hopes to become the country's first co-operative school.

Lowick Church of England School has been threatened with closure as part of the Cumbria Surplus Places Action plan. Now it has plans to create a voluntary aided, maintained school within the Local Education Authority, run on a co-operative basis.

A grant of £28,000 has been made to Lowick and Blawith Educational Trust by Co-operative Action, a foundation supporting co-operative projects, to fund research on a model for the new school.
