Christian youth work: Faith matters

3 mins read
Christian youth work barely received a mention in the youth green paper. Dipika Ghose asks three faith groups what they think about Youth Matters.

Despite this influence, the Youth Matters green paper is remarkably light on details about the role it will play. In fact, faith-based projects are only mentioned alongside the voluntary sector in relation to providing young people with volunteering opportunities or access to space or facilities.

This has not gone unnoticed. At a recent consultation event led by Bishop Roger Sainsbury, chair of The National Youth Agency, and Churches Together in England, Christian youth workers expressed their disappointment that the opportunity to include elements about spirituality had been missed.

Many groups plan to raise their concerns in their green paper response.
