- What is residence?
When a relationship breaks down and a child's parents no longer live together they will need to decide who the child will remain living with. Residence is the term used to describe where the child will live for the majority of the time. The parent who has the child living with them for the majority of the time is called the resident parent and the other parent is called the non-resident parent.
