ChildRIGHT Ask the Expert: Children and their files

When can a child apply to see their health, education and social services files?

A child of any age can apply to see their health or education records. However, disclosure can be refused if it might cause serious harm to a child's physical or mental health, or that of another person.

A child of any age is also able to access information held by their local authority unless this might cause serious harm to their physical or mental health, or that of another person.
