Ann Shreeve, research manager for the National Evaluation of Children's Trusts at the University of East Anglia, said: "We will be looking at a sample of children's trust pathfinders to find out what the learning is, how they tackled strategic and government issues, and what is happening in integrated frontline services." The university declined to reveal which local authorities would be examined.
The evaluation will collect further evidence through a survey of all 35 pathfinders in the autumn to establish the overall impact of the programme.
A final report from the evaluation is due in March 2007.
