Children's services: Social services to lose star rating

The Commission for Social Care Inspection has announced plans to scrap star ratings for children's social care for the 2005/06 performance year.

Local authorities currently receive a combined star rating that reflectsperformance across adult and children's services. But plans to bediscussed at a meeting today (Wednesday, 9 November) propose a starrating just for adult social care.

They also propose removing the separate judgment that rates the capacityof children's social services to improve and replacing it with ajudgment on children's services overall.
