Children's services: Bradford hit by shock resignation

The head of children's services at Bradford Council has resigned, only months after taking the job.

Mark Carriline, a former assistant chief executive of the council whowas appointed strategic director of children's services in July, blamedthe long commute to work from his home in Stockport, GreaterManchester.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Labour's education spokesman, described thesituation as "shocking".

"It gives me serious concerns, particularly as he has only recently beenappointed," he said.
