
Her resignation comes amid ongoing concerns around the quality of the local authority’s support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The criticisms have continued since a damning joint inspection by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission two years ago, which found “significant areas of weakness” in support.
Inspectors ordered the council and local health services to put a plan in place after criticising leaders for a lack of “essential strategic information” about children and families’ needs.
But further concerns, particularly around the provision of school places for SEND pupils, have continued despite an improvement plan being put in place.
