Children's centres: Rural Somerset to get outreach teams

Somerset County Council is to use purpose-built vans and outreach teams to bring children's centre services to rural villages.

From April next year, the council will start using the teams to providefamily support and child and family health services to individualvillages.

The teams, which will be linked to individual children's centres, willuse local village halls as temporary homes and the vans will giveparents the chance to ask for confidential help. The service will alsohelp families with children up to the age of 11 using additional fundsfrom the county council.

The plan is part of the 3.9m phase two expansion of children'scentres in Somerset, which will see the council open 17 centres by April2008.
