Children with complex needs are to receive individual health plans

1 min read Health
Children with complex health needs will have an individual health plan put in place next year as part of a government programme, CYP Now can reveal.

The move is one of a raft of measures outlined in the government's new Healthy Child Programme (HCP) for five- to 19-year-olds, which expands on the existing HCP initiative for the under-fives.

The official launch of the programme, due last week, was delayed but CYP Now has obtained an advance copy of the document.

Individual health plans are identified as a way of reducing emergency hospital admissions by allowing health professionals and teaching staff to anticipate, avoid and respond to events such as seizures or asthma attacks in school children.

The document also reveals that the Department of Health (DH) is to publish guidance on commissioning contraception and abortion services intended to help primary care trusts to commission high-quality services for young people.
