Children to begin school days singing

1 min read Education
School children across England are set to start the day singing at breakfast clubs, thanks to a project bringing music and song into the extended schools agenda.

Learning charity ContinYou will be working over the next six months in partnership with Sing Up, the singing programme for primary school children in England, with clusters of schools developing extended provision based around singing.

The programme will be funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families' £332m investment in music in schools over the next three years.

Matthew Freeman, national development manager for Sing Up, said the project has the potential to make a huge difference and help meet the outcomes of Every Child Matters.

"It ticks all the boxes," he said. "Take staying safe - if you sing you feel more confident, more positive and you learn self-discipline. Singing also makes you healthy - it gives you a great cardiovascular workout, releasing endorphins and even Immunoglobulin A, which helps prevent you from getting ill."
