Childcare: Scottish scheme to get 30m boost

An additional 30m is to be spent on a Scottish project that uses childcare and other specialist support to get families into work or training.

The Scottish Executive cash will allow the Working for Families Fund,which has already helped thousands back into work in 10 local authorityareas, expand its work to another 10 areas.

Glasgow council, which piloted the scheme, said one reason for itssuccess was that it provided families with a tailored service.

To date the project has helped 550 families in the city and the councilwants to increase this to 1,000 families a year.
