Childcare proposals will shake foundations of good provision

A couple of weeks have passed since the Budget and the sector's exasperation hasn't waned.

To quote the last two lines of The Grand Old Duke of York: “and when they were only half-way up, they were neither up nor down.” That is exactly where we are with the childcare funding crisis – neither up nor down. We are still in limbo.

Having been promised that childcare was a priority in the coalition’s mid-term review, we have been let down badly by this government. The new proposals to help parents pay for childcare will not be introduced until the autumn of 2015. Parents need help now and many childcare providers are struggling financially and cannot limp on until 2015.
